Intense Debate

Appropriate? I’m trying out a third-party commenting system on the blog called IntenseDebate. Try it out and let me know how you like it. If all’s well, I’ll keep it.

I've used the intense debate system elsewhere. I think it's pretty good.

How well it'll take of will depend on how committed / tech savvy your readers are. I already use OpenID, so the barrier of entry for me was pretty low, however, many people will give up at the first sign of difficulty.

You can really only wait and see.

Used it on other sites, was a bit worried about registering for a comment system, but transfers between sites nicely. Seems ok, no major issues this far, but wait to see what you're longer-term readers have to say.

My thought on that was simply, from a personal perspective, I trust a centralized commenting system more than I trust individual bloggers having access to my information every time I comment. I'm not sure if readers feel the same way.

It is an extra step, but the benefits of the system for both readers and admin seem like it might be worth it. But you're right… wait and see.
